BLACK SHIRTS DESTROY MEAN MACHINE

Mwamba finished the first quarter of the home and away Kenya Cup League on a high notch, demolishing University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine 44-24 at the Nairobi Railways Grounds to record their fifth consecutive win.

To note on both teams was the similarity of the sponsor’s logos on the team’s jerseys as both teams enjoy sponsorship from water firm H2O.

The students opened the scores 5-0 minutes into the game after a powerful eighth man pick from Wilson Kopondo. Kevin Gachoka then converted for a 7-0 lead.

Horace otieno who scored a hat trick on the day then touched down for his first try under the posts, after an individual initiative from Humphrey Kayange who took a quick tap from his on half dashing a whole 60 meter before the ball trade hands between him, Lavin Asego and Otieno. Tito Oduk converted for the scores to level 7-7.

But when Tito Oduk was yellow carded and Machine awarded a full penalty, the students opted for three points which Gachoka easily drilled over to put his teams tally to 10-7. Almost immediately the hosts replied with a push over maul try at the corner flag with Joseph Oriwo touching down. Asego’s conversion attempt went wide as the scores changed hands to 12-10.

John Ahenda then added a third try for his team at the corner flag after a powerful pick up from a five yard Scrum Down on the opposition’s territory. Oduk’s conversion went wide as the host led 17-10 into half time.
After the breather the black shirts opened the scores through Horace who touched down at the corner flag for his Mean Machine vs Mwambasecond brushing past four tackles, but after a brilliant run from Asego as he took his teams score to 22-10. Oduk converted for a 24-10 lead.

The Students replied immediately with a second converted try at the center post, but the black shirts did not allow them time to settle as Horace touched down for his third. Conversion attempt went wide as the hosts started to draw away putting the scores to 29-17.

Humphrey Kayange then powered his way twice past the students running rings around them as Ahenda also added his second from a quick tap. Oduk’s conversion attempts went wide as Mwamba led 44-17.

The students added a last minute converted try as the game ended 44-24 in favor of the hosts.
