BLACKS DEFEAT BANKERS AT THE DEN

Kulabu vs KCBAfter narrowly going down 25- 24 to the hands of Nakuru at the Nairobi Railways Grounds last weekend, Mwamba regained their winning form thrashing K C B 28- 22 in their own backyard as the return leg of Kenya Cup entered its second week.

Meanwhile Mwamba’s second team also qualified for the semi finals of the patron’s bowl, after demolishing Daystar University 63- 0 at the Nairobi Railways Grounds over the weekend.

Mwamba opened the scores 3- 0 with an easily taken penalty by Tito Oduk just moments after kick off, but the bankers replied immediately with a similar penalty kick which Peter Mutai easily converted for the scores to level 3- 3.

KCB forwards led by Edwin Alubaka, Andrew Amonde, Anthony Ogot and Emmanuel Shitote whom were highly expected to bring the damage upfront were easily tamed by the black shirts forwards led by John Ahenda, George Mbaye, Salaton Muturi, Allan Limo and Louis Kisia.

Oduk slotted in his second penalty to take the scores to 6- 3 in favor of the black shirts, but the lead was cut short by Mutai who touched down under the posts after taking a quick penalty tap in Mwamba’s territory. He converted his own try to extend his team’s lead to 10- 6.

Oscar Otieno then touched for the bankers second try near the posts after a fantastic move by the backs, and Mutai easily converted to take the tally to 17- 6. Oduk then added a third penalty to bring the scores to 9- 17 into half time.

On resumption Mwamba drew first blood and after several pickups by the forwards John Ahenda touched down near the posts. Oduk converted as the scores closed in to 16- 17. When referee Constant Cap flashed a yellow card to Mutai for dirty play in a ruck situation, Mwamba used the numerical advantage and Humphrey Kayange touched down for his team’s second try at the corner flag. Oduk’s conversion attempt went wide as the lead changed hands to 21- 17 in favor of Mwamba.

Prop Allan Limo then picked up a loose ball in the opposition territory and a quick exchange between him and Richard Nyakwaka gifted the black shirts a third try through Collins Injera who scored at the corner flag. Oduk slotted it in from a difficult angle as Mwamba extended their lead to 28- 17.

With three minutes of play left, Mwamba’s Joseph Gummo was yellow carded and KCB immediately used the deficit to score. Mutai’s conversion attempt went wide as the game ended.
