MWAMBA OPEN DALA SEVENS LEG WITH A DREARY PERFOMANCE

Kulabu vs KCB The National Sevens Championship circuit kicked off over the weekend in Kisumu, as the return of the dala sevens took center stage after a two-year absence.

Defending National Sevens champions, Mwamba, were placed in pool A in the 24-team format competition that was played at the Kisumu Polytechnic.

Despite the absence of four key players from the Mwamba side who are in camp with the Kenya Sevens team in preparation for the IRB Sevens Series that starts next month, the black shirts proved that they are still a force to reckon with, winning all their fixtures on day one.

Mwamba opened their title defense against new comers Kenya Medical Training Institute, Siaya with a 41- 0 whooping, before overcoming Masinde Muliro University from Western Kenya 28- 5, in their second match of the day.

Blak Blad from Kenyatta University were no match for the black shirts as they also went down 22- 0, as the defending champs wound up their first day in Kisumu on a high note to book a place in the Main Cup quarters finals.

In the quarter Finals match, played on day two, the black shirts were up against Nakuru RFC, when a last minute converted try from Simon Wariuki relegated Mwamba to the Plate competition, where they lost 14- 0 to Nondescripts. Mwamba bagged a total of 12 points from the tournament. Nakuru went on to win the tournament.

The National Sevens Circuit continues this weekend with the Christie sevens at the RFUEA grounds.
