IMPALA UPSET MWAMBA IN RETURN LEG

Nakuru vs MwambaMwamba lost 11- 20 to Impala in a pulsating Kenya Cup return leg played at the Impala grounds under floodlits over the weekend. It was a similar encounter like the first leg but this time around there was a total of four matches played at the same venue: one Eric Shirley Shield pitting KCB II v Impala II, Patrons Bowl Mwamba II v Strathmore II and the two Kenya cup matches KCB v Strathmore and Mwamba v Impala.

Impala opened the scores early in the game when Vincent Mose picked up his own kick to touch down at the corner flag. Peter Ocholla’s conversion attempt went wide as Impala led 5-0. Ocholla was once again on the mark when he kicked over a drop goal to extend his team’s lead to 8- 0.

Tito Oduk then kicked over two penalties to take his team’s tally to 6- 8. The Red shirts then pulled a quick one when winger Samo picked up from a loose ball left to bounce by Mwamba full back Steve Okeyo to touch down near the posts. Ocholla’s conversion went wide as his team extended their lead to 13- 6.

Just minutes into half time the referee slashed a red card to Impala lock Paul Oimbo for stumping a Mwamba player in a ruck situation. On resumption Mwamba replied on Impala’s deficit with a quick try from kick off which Louis Kisia touched down near the posts only to be called back by the referee and the black shirts awarded a scrum down. Richard Nyakwaka who was playing at Prop then burged over the try line at the corner flag to bring his team’s tally to 11- 13.

Vincent Mose then added his second try after a fantastic run from Peter Ocholla to touch down under the posts. Ocholla’s conversion was on the mark as the red shirts begun to draw away with scores at 20- 11.

In the last play of the game the black shirts were awarded a penalty right in the middle of the posts and opted to run the ball which in turn did not play to their intentions. Final score Impala 20, Mwamba 11.
