BLACK BEATS WHITE UNDER FLOODLIGHTS

Inspirational Kenya sevens skipper Humphrey Khayange and team mate Horace Otieno, both touched down twice to give the black shirts a fourth consecutive win in a Kenya cup match played at Jamhuri park under floodlits as the league entered its sixth straight week.

Mwamba took the lead 3-0 with a well taken penalty kick by center Tito oduk, but Nondies replied almost immediately with a push over maul try at the corner flag that saw Prop Hillary Itela touchdown for the White shirts. Biko Adema’s conversion attempt went wide as the lead changed hands to 5-3 in favor of the hosts.

Almost immediately after their first try, the white shirts took to touch their first penalty and the result was a second push over maul try by the forwards at the corner flag with Itela touching down for his second try. Adema’s conversion went wide as his team led 10-3.

Mwamba coach John Mbai then took a bold step making four changes barely 17 minutes into the first half where he brought in Richard Nyakwaka at lock for Edwin Machanje; John Ahenda came in at number eight for Ayub Ongoro while injured prop Francis Akatu paved way for Allan Limo. It was unfortunate for the H2O Sponsored side who also lost their captain Martin Munyasi through a knee injury and in came newcomer Zimbo Gumo.

It was the second Kenya cup league match to be played under floodlits this year after the first one at Impala grounds a fortnight ago in which the hosts ones again lost to Mwamba 15-17.

Tito oduk slotted in his second penalty, but it was winger Horace’s up and under kick that awarded the black shirts their first try. Oduk’s conversion was on the mark as the teams leveled 10-10. A brilliant run by the Nondies backs saw Biko Adema touch down under the posts and he converted his own try to extend his teams lead to 17-10 into the breather.

On resumption Khayange powered his way through the Nondies defense twice, while Horace picked up on a charged down ball from the center pitch and dashed a whole 50 meter to touch down at the corner flag for his second try, which sealed the game in favor of Mwamba. Final score Mwamba 28 Nondies 17.

Next weekend Mwamba take on Mean Machine in their last match of the first leg at the University of Nairobi grounds from 4:30 p.m.
