MWAMBA BEAT IMPALA TO LIFT RESOLUTION CUP

Mwamba lift Resolution CupMwamba beat Impala 17-15 to record their second win of the season, in a rare occasion where the league match was played on a Friday night under floodlits at the Impala grounds. An agreement between the two clubs was that the first leg trophy be known as the Resolution Cup while the second leg tier be referred as the H2O cup as both Impala and Mwamba are sponsored by Resolution Health and H2O respectively.

Tito Oduk opened the scores for the black shirts with a well taken penalty from 40 meters to put his teams lead to 3-0.

The black shirts who truly dominated Impala in all departments camped in Impala’s territory for more than 15 minutes, and their efforts bore fruit when full back Steve Okeyo touched down after powerful run by the forwards, with the ball trading hands between Richard Nyakwaka, Martin Munyasi, Francis Akatu, John Ahenda and Lavin Asego. Oduk converted for a 10-0 lead.

When winger Dan Wekhu was yellow carded for a punch on Collins Injera, Mwamba were unable to use the numerical advantage to score any try as the red shirts defended viciously.

Impala were then awarded a penalty in Mwamba’s half after an infringement in the ruck by the black shirts forwards, but Felix Makoris penalty kick went wide. Ken Nyangetuba then touched down for the red shirts at the corner flag from a lineout set piece, as Makori converted for a 7-10 score into half time.

On resumption a kick and chase initiative from winger Collins Injera saw Paul Oketch touchdown for Mwamba, just meters from the center post as Oduk easily converted for a 17-7 lead in favor of the black shirts.

But Impala were quick to reply with a well struck penalty kick by Makori to bring the scores to a close of 10- 17.

Larry Asego who was playing at standoff was injured and his sibling Lavin Asego was forced to take charge of the fly half position with Horace Otieno moving to center and substitute Edgar Abere came in at wing.

Dan Wekhu who plies his game in France did not allow Abere to settle and took to him a powerful charge before off loading his pass to Ian Simiyu, who touched down under the posts. Makori easily converted to bring his team scores to 15- 17 into full time.

Final score Mwamba 17 Impala 15.

Next weekend’s match Mwamba versus Strathmore University at Nairobi Railways grounds from 4:30 p.m.
