MWAMBA BEAT QUINS TO RECORD FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

After losing two of their opening league games to the hands of Nakuru and KCB, Mwamba got their first win of the season upsetting defending Kenya Cup champions Quins 34- 27 in their own backyard.

The black shirts opened the scores with a penalty kick from Tito Oduk for a 3-0 lead. John Ahenda then touched down at the corner flag to take his team’s tally to 8-0 after a powerful number eight pick up from the opposition territory. Oduk converted for a 10-0 lead.

Mwamba who truly had a field day against quins then got their second try courtesy of Horace otieno, who picked up a charged down ball to score under the posts. Oduk who had a fantastic day with his boot easily converted for a 17-0 lead.

Quins who trailed the match for an entire twenty minutes got their first try through former Mwamba player Victor Oduor, after a good drive by quins forwards. Full back Godwin Kiragu’s conversion attempt went wide as the scores remained 17-5 in favor of the black shirts.

Almost immediately Quins got their second try through Allan Makaka from an overlap on the black shirts forwards for Kiragu to easily convert for a 12 -17 score into half time.

After the breather Horace got the first touch of the ball from kick off and raced his way to the try line, dashing over 60 meters to touch down at the corner flag. Oduk then did what he does best and an easy conversion for him albeit taken from a difficult angle to extend his teams lead to 24-12.

Horace who could have had a hat trick then picked up the ball from a dummy maul by Oduk and dashed his way to the try line only to be tackled by the fullback short of the line as he offloaded his pass to team mate Collins Injera who easily danced his way to the corner flag. Oduk converted for a 31-12 lead.

Quins then replied with a try from Daniel Kiptoo and were also awarded with a penalty try after a high tackle on Sydney Ashioya to bring the scores to 27-31.

With only 14 men left in Mwamba’s side and 5 minutes of play Tito Oduk kicked over his last penalty that sealed the game in favor of the black shirts. Final score Mwamba 34 Quins 27.
