MWAMBA IN 0.5M SPONSORSHIP DEAL

Mwamba RFC have received a kit sponsorship boost from H20 beverages ahead of the fifteens season kick off tomorrow (Saturday).

Clubs will officially get into action tomorrow in the Impala Floodlit tournament and defending champions Mwamba have gotten new incentive as they edge closer to the tourney.

H20 group has made a bold step towards supporting rugby in the region by parting with an estimated Sh500,000 shirt sponsorship.

Speaking at the launch, Mike Rabar a Homeboys pioneer, the makers of H20, said they were not new in the rugby scene, but they had just decided to up the stakes.

Upcoming talent
Rabar was full praise for the Mwamba team saying: "We chose Mwamba because we thought of them as the indigenous African rugby team, plus they have so much passion and a great system of recruiting upcoming talent."

On hand to receive the sponsorship was Mwamba chairman Mwangi Muthee and the Mwamba players’ fraternity headed by captain Martin Munyasia.

Muthee expressed his gratitude to Homeboys and invited other sponsors to venture into the rapidly growing sport.

"Mwamba are now geared and fuelled to tackle the new season," said Muthee. "Everyone has been talking about Mwamba because this is where the best players are natured and it came as no surprise when Homeboys chose us for their campaign."

"We will use the money mainly for insurance of the players, food, transport to match venues and other logistics that will contribute to the well being of the players," he said.

Homeboys, who are marketing their beverages, unleashed the new Mwamba kit that will hold the H20 logo; same as the one that appears on their water bottles.

This is a major step for Mwamba who have been struggling with finances over the years but have still been able to produce top notch players such as Lavin Asego, Humphrey Kayange and Collins Injera all of whom are the national sevens team players.

Mwamba coach John Onyango praised the new deal and said this is their chance to raise their fifteens team to the same level as that of the sevens team.

"We have dominated the sevens scene for almost three years but we have struggled with consistency in the league, however, now that we have sponsors we might just be able to maintain depth in the squad and contest for a major fifteens trophy this season," said Onyango.

"The kit sponsorship will not only cover the men’s team but will also extend to the women branch of the club. Here at Mwamba we try to be proactive and have organised for the women’s kit to be made, it is not yet ready, but it is on its way," affirmed Muthee.
